‘Your slightly lopsided friends’: Shop taunts thief who took 53 right-foot shoes

The owner of a Brisbane shoe shop says an unusual theft afoot at Kenmore Village Shopping Centre while CCTV cameras were watching left her and her staff scratching their heads.

Fifty-three boots were stolen from the Brisbane shop – all for the same foot.

CCTV footage showed an unknown man taking the footwear from a covered central display and placing it in small suitcases about 7.35pm on Monday.

Shoe Fashions owner Tamara Shorrock told 4BC the incident left her and her staff confused.

“It is so bizarre, we are still scratching our heads … none of us can work out why [he did it],” she said.

When asked about compensation for the 53 right shoes, Shorrock said they weren’t covered by insurance because the table was in the middle of the centre and technically the shopping centre was still open.

“We’ve had the table there for 29 years with no issues,” she said.

Shorrock said the footage was alarming as the man appeared to have no care for the shoes.

“They’re my babies, treat them with care,” she said.

The theft left Shoe Fashions $7000 in debt and Shorrock unsure of what to do with the remaining 53 left shoes.

She told 4BC she floated the idea of donating them to an ambidextrous society, a school to use for artwork, as funky doorstops or even as an unconventional way to store succulent plants.

In a Facebook post, Shoe Fashions wrote that they were a small, local family-run business who “pour their hearts and soul” into the business.

“To the person who took off with a rather very UNBALANCED haul, were you aware you were grabbing solos?” they wrote in the social media post.

The post signed off with “your slightly lopsided friends at Shoe Fashions Kenmore”.

Anyone who recognised the man or who had relevant information was urged to contact police.
