Goal: Relief for Carlton

Orazio Fantasia gets them going after 10 minutes. Super important. The Lions were on a hot streak and looking to run amok.

Q1, 10.26: Brisbane Lions 3.2 (20) lead Carlton 1.0 (6)

A bit of Vossy humour pre-match

Goal: A third for Brisbane

Only nine minutes down and it’s all Brisbane. This time Eric Hipwood is on the board. The Lions have surged to a 20-point lead. Carlton scoreless.

How that goal happened

Controversial second goal for the Lions. Nick Haynes kept the ball in near the boundary deep in defence and passed the ball inboard to Lachie Cowan who running for the ball runs straight into one of the field umpires back-pedalling towards him in the corridor of the ground. The bal spilt free and Charlie Cameron snapped a goal. Brad Scott argued last week the umpires should not be in the corridor after another collision between a player and umpire and now it’s not only a collision but its cost the Blues a goal.

Goal: Charlie Cameron

Straight after the umpire clash, Charlie Cameron pounced on a loose ball and kicked truly. Superb work by the Lions. But, yes, it did trigger a mini-melee.

Ohhh, umpire contact

Oh, gee whiz, there was a decent clash between a field umpire and a Carlton player. Stand by for more information.

An early tactical move

Tom De Koning to start forward. It didn’t work last week at all but Michael Voss is persisting, either out of necessity or because he’s decided the future in the ruck at Carlton is not TDK but Marc Pittonet.

Goal: Lions open the scoring

It’s Jarrod Berry after less than six minutes for the Lions. That makes it an eight-point lead for the visitors. All Brisbane so far.

An early tip on the crowd

Got to say the attendance at Marvel so far ain’t good. I’m tipping there will be no more than 30,000 fans in the house .… which is a pretty small turn-out for a power club like Carlton.

Up and going at Marvel

A reminder … yep, it’s a chilly mid-July evening in marvellous Melbourne.

Here’s the weather outlook:
