A well-known figure in English cricket is being investigated by British police over allegations of spiking two women and sexually assaulting one of them.
The man, in his 40s, was questioned under caution by Scotland Yard in June after a complaint about a potential spiking at a pub in south-west London.
A well-known English cricket figure is being investigated over allegations of spiking two women.
The alleged incident took place on May 22 in the SW6 area, which covers Fulham and Parsons Green. Spiking is when a substance is added to food or drink without a person’s knowledge or consent.
In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: “Two women are believed to have been spiked with one also allegedly sexually assaulted. A man in his 40s was interviewed under caution on Thursday, June 5. Enquiries remain ongoing and no arrests have been made at this stage.”
The England and Wales Cricket Board has been made aware of the investigation and has been contacted for comment.
English cricket has been hit by two incidents of sexual misconduct during the past 12 months. An unnamed coach was suspended for nine months in August after admitting he had sent sexually explicit pictures to two female junior members of staff. His name was redacted by an independent panel because of a “serious risk of harm” if his identity was made public.
In November, a professional coach was suspended for six months for “inappropriate sexual behaviour” on a pre-season tour for an unnamed men’s and women’s county team.
The latest investigation comes with England preparing their attempt to regain the Ashes this winter. The ECB has also recently been through a lucrative process to sell shares on behalf of teams in its Hundred competition to international investors.
