The Hamptons, New York, USA

In the summer holiday playground of New York’s elite, the Hamptons offers plenty of multimillion-dollar estates for deep-pocketed buyers.

Live right on the beachfront, for example, at this 10-bedroom, 12-bathroom mansion that offers knockout views through floor-to-ceiling windows.

The price guide is now $US85 million ($A127.5 million) – but that may prove a good deal. The New York Post reported that the home was earlier made available off-market with hopes of $US150 million by its owner, third-generation New York real estate scion Barton “Mark” Perlbinder.

There’s open-plan living, a gourmet kitchen and an infinity-edge swimming pool with landscaped gardens. The main bedroom boasts a private terrace and large walk-in wardrobe.

There’s a gym, home cinema and library, just in case of days when the residents feel like a change from the beach.

Malibu, California, USA

Not to be outdone, the West Coast of the USA is offering a Malibu oceanfront residence with a price guide of $US74.5 million.

The six-bedroom, eight-bathroom house has a driveway set in a grove of olive trees, plus a private path to the sand – and views for days, of course.
