State teachers have faced a rocky return from school holidays after software glitches locked them out of crucial online systems on Monday morning.

Teachers preparing for classes overnight on Sunday found themselves blocked from the Education Department’s OneSchool system, which manages administrative, teacher, and student resources for Queensland’s state schools.

The department issued a notice before 7am on Monday, and had restored the system by 8am – although that left little time before schools opened their gates following the April holidays.

With the system inaccessible, teachers could not finalise student schedules or updates made across the break.

Not two hours later, teachers were notified of another software bug affecting every Queensland state school.

Schools using Microsoft’s SharePoint platform – provided to schools as part of the Office suite – were locked out of the system, meaning course materials, and collaborative digital and remote learning resources were inaccessible.

The service returned error messages to users that indicated the system was overloaded, with technicians still working on a fix mid-morning.

Seven weeks ago, another technology glitch locked teachers out of roll-call software and prevented them accessing class materials.

At the time, the department would not reveal how many schools were affected and said the issue was “intermittent”, affecting staff on an individual basis.

The issue was fixed by 3pm that same day.

The department said there had been an issue with online security software, but maintained there was no security breach.

OneSchool is the primary software suite used by all Queensland state schools to manage student profiles, attendance, curriculum, reporting, and financial information. Each Queensland state school student has a secure profile within OneSchool.
