Young fan believes Roosters can go back-to-back

By Frances Howe

Jayde Bruce, 11, loves the Rooster’s NRLW team so much that she started playing league because of them.

Proudly walking into Accor stadium with a cut-out of her favourite player Isabelle Kelly’s head, she thinks her team can go undefeated all season to win the premiership.

“It’s been a really great season, I think today’s going to be a tough game,” she said, adding that she’s not worried about it being close.

“They have a really strong side and they’re coming off a one point win so I think maybe they can pull off something today.”

Track issues at Olympic Park station this morning

Let’s face it, Olympic Park is famous for it’s annoying public transport.

So of course there had to be track issues at the station this morning...it wouldn’t be a massive Sydney sporting event without one.

Trains weren’t running between Lidcombe and Olympic Park earlier due to “urgent track repairs”...yikes.

But fear not, it seems to be business as usual now and hopefully smooth sailing for the rest of the day.

Fans begin arriving at Accor Stadium for grand final day

By Frances Howe

Couple Val Waru (63) and Glenn Harold (57) don’t agree on much outside Accor stadium. The couple arrived from Auckland earlier in the week having bought tickets to see the Warriors before they failed to make the final, and are now split over who they are supporting tonight.

While Waru is going for Melbourne Storm (“my next favourite team”), Harold is supporting the Brisbane Broncos (“I’m a typical Kiwi s--t-stirrer”).

In State of Origin, he supports Queensland, but she goes for NSW. Harold jokes that they’ve been “arguing all year”.

“One of us is going to be sleeping on the couch in the hotel room after tonight,” he jokes.

The couple can at least agree on supporting the Warriors reserve grade in Sunday’s first match, the State Championship, before going back to arguing over the pre-game entertainment, Teddy Swims.

“I don’t know who he is,” Harold laughs.

Beautiful day for a grand final

Have your say: who wins state champs?

What are the state championships?

First up today it’s the state championships, which is where the two state competitions winners face off.

From NSW Cup, it’s the New Zealand Warriors and from Queensland Cup it’s the Burleigh Bears.

They’ve both won their state comps, which means this is more or less an exhibition match.

Team lists to come, enjoy.
