Nitro had to put the afterburners on to arrive in time on debut and trainer Peter Snowden says he may well need them again if he’s to go two from two at Rosehill on Wednesday.

The promising three-year-old jumps from the outside in the Asahi Super Dry Handicap (1200m) but that’s been cushioned by the field reduced to seven.

Snowden said he’d love to see Nitro take up a position and will analyse the race before deciding but wouldn’t be so concerned if he’s ridden quietly.

“If he drew a good gate we’d go forward and be in the first few but it’s more likely we’ll go back and ride him similar to the other day,″⁣ Snowden said.

“It’s not a big field and hopefully he doesn’t get too far back. Get him to the outside and let him brush home, it is Rosehill with a big long run home and he can quicken.”

That was on show in winning at Warwick Farm a month ago, he was slowly out and it appeared too big an ask before he launched passing the 100m.

It’d been a long road to Nitro making his debut. He appeared at the official two-year-old trials in September last year but went shin sore after showing a glimpse of what he can do.

“He’s always gone well. If you go back to his trial before the Breeders’ Plate he was slow to begin there and got back but he rocketed home,″⁣ he said.

“It was no surprise to see what he did, we’ve seen it before. He’s a talented horse and he’s taken it to the races and done it.”

Snowden is wary that Nitro is on the back foot as far as the Magic Millions carnival is concerned but hasn’t ruled anything out.

It’s also been a journey to the races for $2.2 million filly Plaintiff, a daughter of Group 1 winner Prompt Response.

She required the removal of a subchondral cystic lesion in the right stifle but has pleased Snowden in her two barrier trials leading into the Irresistible Pools & Spas Plate (1200m).

“She’s got a nice gate where she can stay handy and she has a good turn of foot,″⁣ he said.

“She’s big and immature and had some growing pains early but she’s been given time to mature and is fully furnished.”
