Man critical after being knocked off e-bike

A man has been flown to hospital in a critical condition with serious injuries after being knocked off an e-bike in a collision with a truck on Sydney’s northern beaches.
The collision took place on Barrenjoey Road, near Waterview Street, Mona Vale about 3pm on Thursday.

The e-bike rider, believed to be aged in his 50s, was treated at the scene before being flown to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
The driver of the pantech truck, a man aged in his 20s, was not injured but was taken to Mona Vale Hospital for mandatory testing.
Police have established a crime scene and are investigating the incident, appealing for dashcam footage or information from anyone in the area at the time.
The crash comes amid heightened scrutiny of e-bikes.
Premier Chris Minns announced plans to halve the power limit on bikes sold in NSW to 250 watts on Tuesday, hours after a rider in his 30s was killed in a collision with a garbage truck.
The government will also review the definition of an e-bike to close loopholes allowing “motorcycle-level devices” to be sold as e-bikes.
“We need riders to understand the dangers of riding on one wheel, without a helmet or in the dark with no lights.”

NSW Ambulance has treated more than 770 patients across the state for injuries related to e-bikes since the start of 2025.
