Goulburn horseman Matthew Dale is set to play a strong hand at Wagga on Sunday with four solid chances engaged to run at the meeting.

With the hugely popular two-day Wagga carnival looming, Dale will be out to get into winning form at the track when starting the day with Thegirlfromprague lining up in the Lime Leaf Catering Country Boosted Maiden Plate (1400m).

Louise Day takes the ride on Thegirlfromprague and Dale believes she is a filly with ability.

“She ran a good race when finishing second at Goulburn at her second start,” said Dale.

“She followed that up with a fourth at Goulburn and she looks to have the talent to be thereabouts on Sunday.”

Day will ride the Dale-prepared Brucey in the Bush & Campbell Accountants Maiden Handicap (1200m).

A gelding by Unite And Conquer, Brucey started a $1.65 favourite when making his debut at the Sapphire Coast and finished fourth when beaten just over five lengths behind Falcon Gold.

“He won his trial at Goulburn before his first start and while he was disappointing at the Sapphire Coast he has done well since then, and I’m happy with him going into Sunday’s race,” Dale said.

New stable recruit Sunset Royale will represent Dale in the Kristopher Graydon Jewellers Maiden Plate (1000m) with Pierre Boudvillain in the saddle.

Formerly trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, Sunset Royale has had three starts with the daughter of Farnan having finished fourth at Pakenham at her second start.

She finished sixth at Terang at her latest start on February 20.

“She’s a nice filly and she’s had the three Victorian runs,” said Dale.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how she goes for us on Sunday and it looks a nice race to kick her off in.”

Dale combines with Day again with his final runner of the Wagga meeting when Group Chat contests the Logistics Country Boosted Benchmark 58 Handicap (1200m).

“She’s got her share of ability, and her only win was in maiden grade at Wagga,” Dale said.

“If she can find her best form then she’ll run a good race.”
