6am I start my day with electrolytes, then whip up a vegan protein smoothie with chocolate protein powder, collagen, banana and coconut milk. Plus an espresso.
8.30am I head to [South Hobart cafe] Ginger Brown for my favourite omelette – goats cheese, chilli and wild mushrooms – with the best gluten-free bread.
9.15am A long black.
10.30am I feel a bit peckish and raid my stash of collagen beauty bites, then head into our product sign-off meeting.
1pm I head to Kinoko Deli for my favourite nori tacos – one chicken, one fresh salmon – paired with genmaicha green tea.
6pm My husband makes Buddha bowls with rice, roast veg and mince topped with guacamole, lime and chipotle sauce.
8pm I wind down with a cacao sleep drink made with valerian root, passionflower, holy basil and skullcap.
Dr Joanna McMillan says
Top marks for… Including plenty of variety and colour – from wild mushrooms to salmon and roast veg – and a fabulous wholefood dinner that ticks several nutrition boxes. I love the balance of food pleasure and convenience to get you through a busy day.
If you keep eating like this you’ll… Cover most of your nutrition bases, though relying heavily on protein powders, collagen bites and beauty blends means you may be spending a lot of money without much extra benefit. There is evidence for the benefits of collagen, but a simple powder once a day is all you need, not in multiple guises. Your calcium intake looks a little light, and with so many add-ins it’s easy to crowd out the simple wholefoods that do the heavy lifting.
Why don’t you try… Leaning a little less on powders and potions and more on dairy, legumes or leafy greens to top up calcium and fibre. That way, you get the best of both worlds – the science-backed benefits of natural wholefoods alongside the sparkle of your favourite extras.
