Believe. Belong. Become: Brisbane 2032 releases its ‘Games vision’
It took input from 6000 people, 37 stakeholder groups, 40 workshops and meetings, and came out of 1300 ideas – now the Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics have finally unveiled a “Games vision” in all its alliterative glory.
“Believe. Belong. Become. Brisbane 2032.”
The Games organising committee said slogan was the result of the biggest consultation process Brisbane 2032 had undertaken to date, with president Andrew Liveris describing it as their “north star”.

“Look, the excitement I felt when I was given the honour of having this job 3½ years ago keeps building to a new crescendo – and today’s a crescendo moment,” he said.
In breaking down the Games vision, the OCOG said it was more than just a statement, but a series of commitments.
Believe: “We believe in the power of sport and our Australian spirit. Together, they unlock our limitless potential, grit and heart to go further than we ever imagined.”
Belong: “Everyone is welcome at our Games. Every person is celebrated, creating a playing field that’s fair and fun.”
Become: “This is our moment and our move. Together, we’ll harness the magic of the Games to become stronger, taking us into an exciting new era.”
“The words are ubiquitous in the English language, but they have meaning,” Liveris said.
The aim now, Liveris said, was for Brisbane 2032 to live up to those words.

Brisbane 2032 chief executive Cindy Hook said more milestones were coming in the next year.
“Next year, you can expect our first commercial sponsor will be announced, which will be really exciting to see how corporate Australia is coming in behind us,” she said.
“You can expect us to announce the sport program – that will be probably closer to the end of the year.
“You can expect us to reveal the emblem, which will be really exciting, and that’s more of a marketing tool.
“The vision is the north star to guide us. The emblem will become an asset that we market the games to pay for them with.”
Queensland Sports Minister Tim Mander said they were words designed to inspire.
“I see it both being used or being seen individually and collectively as well,” he said.
“The belief aspect, very much, is an inspirational thing. To me, it’s a very Queensland thing.
“We’re often doubted with regards to our abilities and, time and time again, we surprise people with regards to what we achieve.”
The Games vision was unveiled at a launch event at Queen’s Wharf in Brisbane on Wednesday evening, 6½ years out from the opening ceremony.
Councils from across the state also tuned in to watch the announcement.
The Games vision was not to be confused with the Brisbane 2032 tagline, which would be released closer to the Games and be used on promotional material.
The Los Angeles 2028 Games has the vision “Together we can change the future” while Paris had “Sport can change lives”.
