A trainee doctor has been hit with another 775 charges after allegedly spying on hundreds of women in toilets across major Melbourne hospitals, bringing the total charges to more than 900.

The new charges against 28-year-old Ryan Cho relate to alleged offending that includes stalking, producing intimate images and installing optical surveillance devices across the three hospitals where he worked, a police spokesperson said.

Cho was released on bail in August with strict conditions after being charged with secretly filming colleagues and strangers – mostly women — in the toilets and showers of Austin Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre between 2021 and 2025.

“No alleged offending at any new facilities has been identified. It’s alleged a mobile phone was used as a recording device in staff toilets at all three hospitals,” the police spokesperson said.

“Police do not expect to identify further alleged victims.

“As the investigation remains ongoing, further updates will be provided when appropriate.”

During his successful contested bail application in August, Crown prosecutor Russell Hammill described Cho’s alleged offending as calculated and obsessive, involving meticulous planning over years.

Hammill told the court police had seized more than 10,000 intimate files, including 4500 videos, from a device at Cho’s home containing footage of victims, largely women, using toilets and showers at hospitals as well as homes the accused had shared with others.

The court heard police were first alerted to concerns after reports a man had been seen loitering around staff toilets in the Austin’s emergency department.

At the time, maintenance workers were already investigating toilet blockages that police now allege were caused by Cho to force victims into cubicles where cameras were hidden.

Cho’s lawyer, Julian McMahon, SC, said there was no suggestion Cho was a threat to the safety of others.
