NSW Premier Chris Minns and NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon announced just after 10pm that at least 11 people had been killed by the gunmen. One of the shooters was also killed.
It was earlier reported that the total number was 10.
Was there an event being held at the time?
Sunday marked the first evening of Hanukkah, the Jewish holiday. The shooters were seen close by to the Chanukah by the Sea festival, where Jewish Sydneysiders had gathered to celebrate the holiday.

Police were believed to be raiding an address in Bonnyrigg in Sydney’s west in connection with the attack.
What have people said about it?
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned it as an “act of evil antisemitism”.
“An attack on Jewish Australians is an attack on every Australian,” he said.
NSW Premier Chris Minns described it as a “horrifying, evil attack”.
“Our heart bleeds for Australia’s Jewish community tonight,” Minns said.
“I can only imagine the pain that they’re feeling right now, to see their loved ones killed as they celebrate this ancient holiday.”
NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said more than 1000 people were celebrating Hanukkah at Bondi Beach.
“As a result of the circumstances of the incident tonight, at 9:36pm this evening, I declared this to be a terrorist incident.”
