Making headlines today is the state’s peak law body, which has taken aim at a new bill granting Premier Roger Cook extraordinary major project approval powers, claiming it will hinder lawyers’ ability to advise their clients on proposed developments.
The Law Society of WA has sent a letter to the premier, seen by this masthead, sounding the alarm over the looming State Development Bill being able to allow ministers to “override conventional environmental protection safeguards and the related statutory approval processes”.

The society “generally supports” the introduction of state development areas and the creation of the office of coordinator-general, the letter revealed, but that was in “stark contrast to the ad hoc, special rules for priority projects and highly discretionary regime” proposed elsewhere in the bill.

Meanwhile, if you’ve tried to sell your house recently and it took a little longer than you expected, well, you’re not alone.
Despite Perth’s booming market, houses are taking longer to sell, with the average property staying on the market for 37 days – the highest in two years.
The latest figures from Domain shows a significant increase in October compared to just 26 days this time last year, putting Perth ahead of Sydney and Canberra for the biggest increase in time spent on the market.
However, WA properties still spend the least amount of time on the market compared to other states and territories.
