Making headlines today, an inquest into the death of child sex offender Ashley Bropho has heard prison staff didn’t know the white supremacist who killed him had previously been convicted of attempting to murder another inmate he believed to be a paedophile.

Evan James Martin, 45, was convicted of murdering Bropho, 40, in Hakea Prison in 2023, brutally assaulting him inside his own cell while both men were meant to be in protective custody.
Meanwhile, judges are not implementing Western Australia’s family and domestic violence laws mandating the monitoring of repeat offenders, as the state government walks back its declaration that courts would be compelled to impose them.
And independent WA senator Fatima Payman says her office continues to receive daily racist messages, after a 51-year-old Ballarat man avoided jail after sending her death threats over email in March.
