Good morning readers, and welcome to our live blog for Thursday, February 12.

Making headlines today is the shattered father of a 24-year-old man who died after a head-on crash speaking out to remember his son as someone who was full of life, and “there was no holding him back”.

Qualified ceiling fixer Kaleb Brunsdon was driving his Izuzu ute southbound on the northbound lanes of the Mitchell Freeway when he and a Toyota Yaris hatchback heading north collided about 11.25pm.

Kaleb Brunsdon died after a head-on crash on Perth’s Mitchell Freeway. There are now questions about a nearby intersection believed to have played a role in a similar crash several months ago.

The 56-year-old female driver of the Yaris died at the scene while Brunsdon was taken to Joondalup Health Campus where he later died. Two occupants of an MG MG4 hatchback were also injured in the incident.

Speaking to 9News Perth, Brunsdon’s father Kane said it was an absolute tragedy that he couldn’t believe when he was first told.

“He was such a wonderful young man – just finished his apprenticeship, just bought a house – and he was moving in the right direction,” he said.

The crash is the second of its kind on that stretch of the Mitchell Freeway in the space of five months, and has thrown the spotlight back on a nearby intersection locals have previously said was confusing.

The matter has returned to court sporadically ever since, but culminated on Wednesday afternoon with Kennedy being exonerated of the charge.
