Tehran denies agreeing to more US talks - Iranian state media

By Ellen Connolly

It’s been almost seven hours since Trump announced a second round of negotiations in Pakistan - and still no confirmation from Iranian officials that they will participate.

Pakistan has also not confirmed a meeting.

Iran’s official IRNA news agency reports said that “excessive” and “unreasonable” expectations and the US blockade of Iranian ports “have so far hindered progress in the negotiations.”

Iranian officials had not agreed to a second round of talks due to “Washington’s excessive demands, unrealistic expectations, constant shifts in stance, repeated contradictions, and the ongoing naval blockade, which it considers a breach of the ceasefire”, according to IRNA.

“In these circumstances, there is no bright prospect for fruitful negotiations,” it says in a post on Telegram.

Iran’s military turns two tankers away

Two tankers were forced to turn back by Iran’s military today as they attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, the country’s Tasnim news agency reported.

The vessels, sailing under the flags of Botswana and Angola, were forced to change course after what the report described as “unauthorised transit” through the strategic waterway.

The Iranian navy has reimposed tight restrictions on transit through the strait while the US blockades Iran’s ports and waters. The standoff has left hundreds of vessels waiting in both directions for clearance through the waterway where a fifth of the world’s oil supplies normally passes.

Trump says US officials will head to Pakistan for Iran talks

By Ellen Connolly

Donald Trump announced on social media on Sunday (Washington time) that a US delegation will travel to Pakistan on Monday night for the second round of negotiations with Iran.

It comes as a two-week ceasefire is set to end this week - without a deal in sight.

US Vice President JD Vance and top Trump aides Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff will lead the negotiations, a White House official.

The Serena hotel, where the first round of talks was held, is clearing rooms for the talks, asking guests to leave by Sunday afternoon, Bloomberg reported.

Trump made further threats to Iran today if a deal was not reached next week, writing on Truth Social: “We’re offering a very fair and reasonable DEAL, and I hope they take it because, if they don’t, the United States is going to knock out every single Power Plant, and every single Bridge, in Iran,” he adds.
