Dalaroo geophysics unlocks thick Greenland rare earths potential

Dalaroo Metals says it has peered into the depths beneath the surface of its Blue Lagoon rare earths project in Greenland and liked what it saw, with a geophysical survey confirming unconsolidated sediment packages up to 50 metres in thickness.

A total of twenty-one ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey lines were completed across five priority shoreline target areas, offering the first detailed, three-dimensional picture of the project’s sedimentary basin.

Eastern sediment-filled valley interpreted as a source-to-sink transport pathway into the basin at Dalaroo’s Blue Lagoon project in Greenland.

The work, combined with an echo sounder survey, has confirmed extensive sediment accumulations within the primary rare earth-bearing shoreline areas.

The results are a significant step forward for Dalaroo’s sediment-hosted exploration model, which centres on rare earth-enriched alkaline granites eroding into a contained lagoon environment.

For these types of deposits, the thickness and continuity of the mineralised sediments are fundamental controls on their potential size.

The survey demonstrated that sediment layers in several locations extend beyond the GPR system’s 50m penetration limit, leaving these deeper zones open. This suggests that even greater accumulations of valuable rare earth mineralisation might be lurking below.

The company says one of the most significant outcomes was the identification of numerous previously unrecognised sediment-filled valleys extending beyond the current exploration footprint.

Dalaroo believes these valleys represent additional “source-to-sink” transport pathways capable of carrying and concentrating rare earth-bearing heavy minerals from the surrounding source rocks.

The discovery lends considerable weight to the growing view that Blue Lagoon is part of a much bigger sedimentary system than originally recognised and extends well beyond the areas currently targeted by exploration.

In addition to the GPR work, ten bathymetric survey lines were completed across the lagoon itself, delivering the first detailed model of the lagoon floor.

This will help the company in interpreting sediment transport pathways and the depositional environments responsible for concentrating the valuable heavy mineral sands.

This latest work now demonstrates that those sedimentary environments are substantially thicker than originally understood, with sediment accumulations extending to approximately 50 metres in several priority areas.”

Whilst Greenland is shaping up to be the company’s headline act, Dalaroo is also building a solid portfolio of gold assets in West Africa’s highly endowed Birimian greenstone belt.

At its Bondoukou gold project in Côte d’Ivoire, recent soil sampling defined a significant 7km-long gold anomaly at the Gold Ridge prospect.

The work returned a headline-grabbing peak soil value of 23.26 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and outlined multiple consistent anomalies that remain open along strike. The project sits in the Siguiri Basin, a prolific region that hosts several multi-million-ounce gold deposits.

The company also holds the Kokoumbo project in Côte d’Ivoire, which came with a suite of historical drill hits that were never followed up, including a stellar 7.5-metre intersection grading 16g/t gold from surface and another hit of 4.5m at 4.22g/t gold.

Back on home soil in Western Australia, the company holds the Lyons River project in the Gascoyne province, where it announced a gold system discovery in April 2024.

With the geophysical fieldwork in Greenland now complete, Dalaroo says its focus will turn to integrating the new 3D model with its geological mapping and pending assay results from its recent comprehensive field program. This will allow management to prioritise future auger drilling, bulk sampling and metallurgical studies.

With its geological model at Blue Lagoon now significantly strengthened, Dalaroo has provided a strong technical foundation for the next phase of exploration.

The GPR survey has essentially confirmed the “sink” is not only present, it is also substantially bigger and more complex than first thought. As Dalaroo works to integrate the new data and await key assay results, the market will likely be watching to see just how big this Greenlandic critical minerals system could become.
