A WA police officer has been hospitalised with serious injuries after an incident on Friday night in Ellenbrook that allegedly involved a stolen car and two 16-year-old boys.

Police allege that at about 9pm the teenagers entered a home in Waterford and stole a wallet and keys to a Toyota Prado.

Just over an hour later the allegedly stolen vehicle was spotted by officers stationery at the intersection of the Promenade and Main Street in Ellenbrook.

The officers pulled up next to the car with lights flashing, before opening the driver’s side door and directing the driver to exit the vehicle.

Police then allege the driver “accelerated heavily, dragging the officer along the road” before the vehicle stopped and the officer fell to the ground.

St John WA paramedics attended the scene and provided first aid to the police officer before he was conveyed to hospital with serious injuries.

The 16-year-olds from Embleton and Thornlie were each arrested and charged with a raft of offences including assaulting a public officer, carrying or possessing an edged weapon, stealing a motor vehicle, no authority to drive, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and driver of a vehicle failed to stop.

They will be appearing in Perth Children’s Court on Saturday.
