Mark Beretta is leaving Sunrise after 22 years.
The visibly emotional sports presenter announced his departure live on air Thursday morning, seguing to his personal news with three words after his regular sports report.
“Just something else,” Beretta’s announcement began. “After 30 years working with the Seven Network and after a lot of long nights thinking about it, the time is right for me to step away from Sunrise.”
Beretta said that he would not have believed it if he had been told in February 1995 – when he first walked through Seven Melbourne’s doors – that he would still be working his dream role now, but cited his desire to spend more time with his family.

“Losing dad to cancer two months ago, and mum fighting on against the disease, has made me see the world a little differently,” Beretta said.
“Family time has become even more important. And I want to do more to help the great work of Tour de Cure in finding treatments and cures for cancer.”
The 59-year-old’s final episode on the breakfast show will be on December 12. A statement from Seven said Beretta was not leaving the network, and will be part of several projects that have yet to be announced.
“For more than 20 years we have sat together in the Sunrise studio and what a ride it has been,” said co-host Natalie Barr.
“So many amazing memories of the most special job in the world. You never quite leave the Sunrise family though ... so see you soon Beretts!”

Beretta first joined Sunrise as Georgie Gardner’s co-host in 2000, before moving to present sport on Seven News Sydney in 2002. In 2004, he returned to Seven’s breakfast show as sports presenter.
This year saw Beretta mark 30 years with the network, and reduce his full-time Sunrise appearances to Mondays and Fridays only.
