Connections of exciting Canberra sprinter Xcessive Force are preparing for the first step in a big late summer and autumn campaign when the mare resumes in a Class 4 handicap and Country Championship preview over 1300 metres at Tuesday’s Goulburn meeting.

The lightly raced four-year-old daughter of 2019 Doncaster winner Brutal in the Danielle Seib stable hasn’t started since missing narrowly in a Class 2 Highway at Randwick over 1100m in heavy going late last winter.

That one-off run capped off a spaced four-start plan across the first half of 2025 which yielded two wins as a heavily backed favourite, while finishing second in the other two.

Put away through last spring with bigger targets in mind for 2026, Xcessive Force has been in work for some time and is likely to jump a hot favourite at Goulburn despite drawing the outside barrier.

Naturally, she will be aimed at a place in the lucrative Country Championship final at Randwick in early April, likely via either the Wagga qualifier on February 28 or the final qualifier at Goulburn on March 22.

In the middle of all that, she may even target the listed National Sprint over 1400m at home on Black Opal Stakes day on March 8, via the Prelude meeting on February 20.

Certainly, there are plenty of options for a mare who is still well on the rise and has always been touted as being up to black type level.

The meeting is also a big stepping stone for another talented Canberra four-year-old making his debut in the opening maiden handicap over 1100m.

Midnight Moose, a gelding by Knight Exemplar and stabled with Rob Potter, has been brought along quietly, and bolted in a recent Cowra trial.

A gelding with plenty of tactical speed, Midnight Moose will likely be aimed at the home Black Opal Stakes meeting if all goes to plan early in the initial prep.

He opened around $2.70 across early betting ahead of resuming local filly Classic Touch ($3.90) and Queanbeyan-based mare Closethedoordarcy around the $5.00 mark.
