Peak hour commuter chaos for Perth as ‘partial train derailment’ closes three lines
Perth’s public transport system has been thrown into chaos just in time for Monday afternoon’s peak hour traffic following what Transperth described as a partial train derailment near Bayswater.
Transperth said three of its train lines were cancelled just after 3pm following the incident.
A train has partially derailed near Bayswater on Monday afternoon, sparking commuter chaos.
“There has been a service disruption as two bogies from a railcar have partially come off the tracks while departing Bayswater Station at low speed this afternoon,” a spokesperson said.
“The train has come to a stop with all passengers safely evacuated.
“The PTA is investigating the cause of the incident.”
Trains on the Perth Airport, Ellenbrook and Midland lines are cancelled between Perth and Ellenbrook.
As of 5pm, trains on Airport line are cancelled between Perth and Redcliffe.
Trains are also cancelled on the Ellenbrook line between Perth and Morley, and on the Midland line they are cancelled between Perth and Bassendean.
The Fremantle line has also been disrupted.
Train replacement buses are being organised, and Transperth warned the disruption will likely continue past peak hour.
“Passengers should allow extra travelling time and be aware that replacement buses may not connect with timetabled bus and train services,” the authority said.
Meanwhile on the roads, a crash on Tonkin Highway closed the right lane and blocked traffic to the airport.
The crash, which also happened near Perth Airport after Dunreath Drive in Redcliffe, has blocked part of the highway to traffic.
Main Roads WA has advised motorists to drive safely on their approach.
