Four injured in car ramming, stabbing at synagogue in Manchester, suspect shot by police

London: British police said on Thursday four people had been injured when a car was reportedly driven at pedestrians and one person stabbed near a synagogue in Manchester, north-west England, and that officers had shot the suspected offender.

In a series of posts on X, Greater Manchester Police said they were called to the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall shortly after 9.30am, local time, by a member of the public.

The caller said he had witnessed a car being driven towards members of the public and that one man had been stabbed.

The posts said that minutes later shots were fired by firearms officers.

“One man has been shot, believed to be the offender,” it added.

A Reuters photographer said there was a heavy police presence in the area. Ambulance crews were seen in protective body armour and helmets, and at least one person was seen being taken into an ambulance.

The North West Ambulance Service said it had dispatched resources to the area.

Andy Burnham, the mayor of the Greater Manchester Area, said that the “immediate danger appears to be over” after reports of the incident in Crumpsall.
