Commuters on most of Melbourne’s northern train lines will face a challenging trip home, after a fire underneath the rail line at a major choke point on the metropolitan network.
Fire Rescue Victoria has confirmed it was called to reports of flames and smoke spanning around 15 by 20 metres coming from underneath a railway bridge around 3pm. The fire was brought under control just after 3.30pm.

Metro trains said there were major delays on the Craigieburn, Upfield, Werribee, Williamstown and Sunbury lines as a result of the fire.
“Services are currently terminating or originating at intermediate stations. Check information displays and listen for announcements as services may be altered at short notice,” a statement from Metro read.
More to come.
