England are breathing a sigh of relief after enforcer Mark Wood was cleared of damage to his hamstring.

Wood will not bowl on the final day of England’s warm-up match against the England Lions on Saturday but remains in the frame to play in the first Test starting Friday in Perth.

The speedster sent a scare through the England camp on Thursday after complaining of stiffness in his hamstring in his first competitive game in nine months.

“Following precautionary scans on Friday, England fast bowler Mark Wood has been cleared of any concerns regarding his left hamstring,” the England and Wales Cricket Board said in a statement released on Saturday.

“He is not expected to feature today – the third day of England’s warm-up match against the Lions XI at Lilac Hill Park, Perth.

“Wood will continue to train as planned in the build-up to the first Test in Perth.”
