A talented metropolitan-based mare returning for just her second start will be out to lower the boom on an in-form and rival neighbour when they clash at Thursday’s Kembla meeting.

Outta Line, a four-year-old daughter of Pierro in the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable at Randwick, hasn’t started since a commanding debut win at Wyong in early July.

That day as a three-year-old she led all the way over 1350m before being spelled.

Now connections are treading a similar path ahead of her first summer run in a very competitive Benchmark 64 Hcp for the fillies and mares over 1400m to close the program.

Similar to earlier in the year, Outta Line has been given two solid trials at home up to 1050m, and looks fit and ready to run out this distance fresh, with leading jockey Tim Clark keeping the ride from the latest trial.

But there’ll be no room for error against a resident Randwick rival who is shooting for a third straight win this prep.

Purple Rose, an exciting four-year-old daughter of Exosphere, has won both starts back from a break in dominant front-running fashion at Canberra and Wyong for the new John Thompson stable.

She clocked a handy time for the 1350m at Wyong as a hot favourite in bolting in a Midway Class 1 over 1350m by nearly 3 lengths.

Now she gets back on a bigger track stepping up significantly in grade.

The pair is likely to dominate betting, with Purple Rose heading the market early around $2.80, and Outta Line closer to $6.00.

And Purple Rose looms as one half of a potential double strike for the Thompson yard.

Earlier Vingt Neuf Noir, a lightly raced filly by Zousain, reloads in a Midway Maiden Hcp over 1200m a fortnight after failing first-up in a much tougher assignment at Canterbury.

That day at big odds, she was a little crowed for room early in the straight, but was still only plain late in a midfield finish.

But with more work behind her, stepping up 100m in distance and from a good trailing draw, Vingt Neuf Noir can find her best, and justify early favouritism around the $3.40 mark.
