Snapshot: Miracles abound
By Marc McGowan
It’s an Easter miracle! Essendon held the erratic Bulldogs goalless in the third term and piled on four goals of their own to slash their half-time deficit of 54 points to 35 at the final break. The belated fight is almost certainly too late to salvage tonight’s result, but coach Brad Scott and co. can actually cling to something tonight now. The Bombers’ intent was different from the opening seconds, with Kyle Langford setting up the returning Tom Edwards for one of his two goals in the term. They had some promising counter-attacks through the middle and made it far tougher for the Dogs to move the ball (although the Bulldogs did not help themselves with some awful turnovers). The challenge now is for Essendon to do it all again in the final term. For the Dogs, a bad half hour was made worse by injuries to Tim English and Arty Jones.

There’s the siren for the final-break. Essendon rallied superbly. Credit where credit’s due. The Bulldogs were held goal-less for the term.… the first time this season.
This is a damning stat, too: The Bulldogs have kicked TEN behinds in a row.

The Bombers are coming. They’ve found something. Call it spirit, call it whatever you like. But they are playing with confidence that’s been missing for some time.
And Peter Wright will have another shot at goal… The big man misses to the left.
A reminder that it’s Essendon 4.2 to the Bulldogs 0.6 in the third quarter. A couple of minutes to come.

The Bombers silence the Marvel crowd with FOUR goals in a row. Peter Wright booted the latest. It came after a string of possessions from defence as the Bombers showed good composure. They got the ball up forward quickly and Wright took a chest mark. Easy conversion.

That’s stunning. The third quarter is little more than two minutes old and Essendon have gone forward twice, for two goals. Full credit to them.
Thomas Edwards and Jade Gresham are the goal-kickers. The roost from Edwards was one to behold. A cracking goal from near the arc. He leant back and let fly...
