Police pleaded with Queenslanders to ride safely and wear protective equipment after a woman died in an e-scooter crash on the Sunshine Coast – the third death caused by an electric-powered device in recent weeks.
The 33-year-old crashed the scooter on Beerburrum Street at Aroona about 12.30pm on Sunday. She suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken by paramedics to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
Police confirmed on Tuesday that the woman had died.
Police said investigators believed she had lost control and crashed and asked for anyone with relevant information, CCTV or dashcam vision to contact police.
Acting Inspector Brendan Davis said it was the second e-bike or e-scooter death in the area this year after an 8-year-old died following a collision near the Kawana Way and Sunshine Coast Motorway interchange in late October.

“Coming into the Christmas school holidays there will be even more people who will be out and about on [e-scooters and e-bikes],” he said.
“This incident is a timely reminder of what can go horribly wrong in a matter of seconds.
“Remember, if you are going to ride one of these devices to always wear a helmet, abide by the road rules and be aware of your surroundings.”
In early November, a teenager died after crashing an electric dirt bike on the Gold Coast.
