Multiple people have been shot dead after a gunman opened fire in a NSW country town.
NSW Police sources, speaking on condition of the anonymity, told the Herald that two people had been shot dead in Lake Cargelligo in the NSW Central West on Thursday afternoon.
Information on the ground is scarce, but police sources say a third person may be dead, and the gunman is believed to be holed up in the town with a long-arm weapon.
NSW Police are working to locate the gunman and have dispatched resources from neighbouring policing districts to the town, including heavily armed tactical police. Police have advised locals to stay indoors.
The Tactical Operations Unit are inbound, armed with high-powered weapons, and will “contain the threat”, sources say.
Lake Cargelligo is a small town west of Forbes and north of Griffith. The town has a population of about 1400 people, according to the 2021 census.
The shooting is believed to be domestic violence related and not an act of terrorism.
More to come.
