Sydney airport freight handler dies after being hit by towing vehicle

A man in his 40s has died while working at Sydney Airport after he was hit by an airport towing vehicle.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 10.30am on Sunday, following reports that the freight handler had been injured at the Qantas international freight terminal.

The man suffered significant injuries to his head and chest area and could not be revived, NSW Ambulance said.
Police established a crime scene that was examined by specialist police, but the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Emergency services spoke with a number of traumatised witnesses, including the operator of heavy machinery involved in the accident.
A Sydney Airport spokesperson said support services were available to all staff working across the airport.
“Everyone at Sydney Airport is deeply saddened by the fatal incident involving an airfreight worker earlier this morning,” the spokesperson said.
“Our thoughts are with the worker’s family, friends and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.
“We are working to support the airline and relevant authorities as they investigate the incident.”
A Qantas statement said: “A worker at the Qantas International Freight Terminal at Sydney Airport has been involved in a serious accident this morning.
“We are working closely with the relevant authorities and will provide support to all those affected.”
The man was not employed by Qantas, according to the airline.
There were no disruptions to passenger flights on Sunday.
