Trainer Peter Snowden is confident he’ll see a very different version of Infusion as the lightly raced mare looks to bounce back at Warwick Farm today.

Nothing went to plan for the four-year-old when she finished near the tailenders as a $4 chance at Randwick a week and a half ago, but Snowden is adamant she was just a victim of circumstances.

So he’d like the mare to be more of a player in the Ole Kirk Yearlings Handicap (1200m).

“She drew wide, and I gave [jockey] Tom [Sherry] an open hand about whether to go forward or back,” he said. “There was a line of eight there for about a furlong so he went back and they strung out.

“About four or five others went back, and she got in behind them and got further back than we wanted to be. It was impossible for her, she made up some ground late, but she got tired late as well.

“She’ll improve from it, a better draw and down a little bit in class, so I’d expect a good deal of improvement second-up.”

One vital aspect of her second-up assignment Snowden would like jockey Jason Collett to make some use of is that more favourable draw.

Infusion sat very handy in both her runs in her first preparation so he’d expect her to be a lot more prominent.

“In her runs prior to going out she was on speed. She’ll probably be in the first four or five,” he said. “Her work since has been good, and she’s not far off where she was before she went out so hopefully we’ll see that sort of run.”

Snowden expects stablemate Mirra Impact to make his presence felt in the Asahi Super Dry Handicap (1600m) after he showed he’s relishing being stretched out in distance.

The gelding had his first start beyond 1400m when he finished a close third over 1550m at Canterbury last month and Snowden said the Farm should suit him.

“He can race a bit handier now with a steadier pace. His run the other day was quite good, he wasn’t beaten far around Canterbury,” he said.
