Smooth FM has retained its position as Sydney’s No.1 radio station in the fifth ratings survey of the year, despite 2GB closing the gap between the two stations.

Smooth FM attracted 11.8 per cent of the available audience – down 0.5 percentage points from the previous survey – to remain Sydney’s most listened to radio station. 2GB also saw a dip, dropping 0.2 percentage points to 11.4, an improved result compared to survey four, which saw the broadcaster drop two whole points to 11.6 per cent. Nine is the owner of 2GB and this masthead.

While just 0.4 percentage points divide Smooth (11.8) and 2GB (11.4), KIIS continues to nip at their heels.

In the previous survey, the station climbed 1.1 points to an audience share of 10.4 per cent. KIIS has improved on that result once more in survey five, nabbing an extra 0.7 percentage points for an available audience share of 11.1 per cent, putting it within touching distance of Smooth and 2GB.

Classic hits station Gold ranked fourth, followed by Nova, ABC Sydney, Triple M and Triple J.

Much of KIIS’ success stems from a huge uptick in the all important battle for breakfast. Kyle and Jackie O knocked 2GB breakfast host Ben Fordham off his No.1 perch to become Sydney’s top rating breakfast show.

The Kyle and Jackie O program posted a 15.3 per cent share (up 1.4 percentage points), leapfrogging Fordham who managed 14.2 (down from 14.7 in survey four).

Meanwhile, in August we finally had confirmation that that Gold’s Jonesy & Amanda program would be moving to the drive slot in 2026, with Melbourne-based Christian O’Connell Show to take over the breakfast slot. Following this announcement, Jonesy & Amanda dipped a further 0.8 percentage points for an audience share of 8.2.

In a similar result to survey four, ABC Sydney maintained its position, the station fell 0.1 points to an audience share of 5.6 per cent. The national broadcaster posted losses in every demographic, except people aged 55-64, where the station picked up 2.7 percentage points for an audience share of 8.4.
