The injured teen sustained a laceration to his arm and head, and was taken to St John of God Midland Hospital for treatment. He is in a stable condition.

Within an hour of the attack, police had taken six teenagers, aged between 13 and 16, into custody.

The group have since been charged with disorderly behaviour in a public place, being armed in a way that may cause fear, unlawful wounding and assault occasioning bodily harm.

One of the teens was also charged with possessing an edged weapon.

Three of the teens are due to appear in Perth Children’s Court on Tuesday.

The incident, which occurred around 3pm, sent the school into lockdown, with students still on the grounds kept indoors for more than one hour until the threat had passed.

One student witness said there were boys armed with knives and a tomahawk outside the school who had their faces partially covered at the time of the attack.

Two of the teens later arrested appeared to be wearing different school uniforms.

WA Police Inspector Gary Butler described the incident as a targeted attack and said there were no safety concerns for the broader public.

“This is a tragic and completely unacceptable situation,” he said.

“All students have the right to feel safe when they’re at school.”

One teen remains on the run.
