Selections based on a good track.
Race 1
1. Roy Kelton had a couple of recent trials before debuting as a five-year-old and finishing second at Goulburn at the end of last month. He was beaten a tick over four lengths in that event but should be better for the experience and this looks a nice race for him. 7. Sacred Ingot is resuming from a spell on the back of a Sapphire Coast trial in which he finished fourth of five. He’s had plenty of chances with 20 starts to his name but has been placed in seven of them. 9. Tsarina Diamonds finished sixth in the same race Roy Kelton contested at Goulburn and ran second at the Sapphire Coast before that. 6. Reveillon disappointed at Wellington when last produced but was placed in a couple at the Sapphire Coast and Moruya before that.
How to play it: Roy Kelton WIN.
Race 2
5. Mayport is a Merchant Navy mare on debut here and has had two trials in preparation. She ran seventh of seven in the first of them at Goulburn before winning an Illawarra Grange trial last time out. She’s drawn ideally in gate one and should be prominent from the outset. 10. Star Of Lily debuted against good opposition at the end of last year with a third at Canberra and resumes here after a third in a Sapphire Coast trial. She should be primed to run well. 1. Step Quick has been placed on five of 14 starts and wasn’t beaten far when a last start fourth at Orange. 3. Elasand failed at Goulburn when last produced but has shown enough to suggest she could sneak into the placings.
How to play it: Mayport EACH WAY.
Race 3
3. Winning Emotions is returning from a break in this on the back of a quiet Goulburn trial. He ran second at this track in January and then ran a bold race when fourth at Rosehill. He followed those runs with a third at Goulburn and a midfield finish in Highway company at Rosehill. That form looks good enough for him to get away with this. 1. Falcon Gold scored a Cowra win when leading throughout before finishing fourth at the Sapphire Coast. He is worth another chance. 6. Extrio scored in good style at Wagga when last produced and has claims again on that effort. 7. Vereeva has been placed in her latest two starts and can be thereabouts again.
How to play it: Winning Emotions WIN.
Race 4
9. Farsain followed a couple of seconds with a close-up fifth in maiden company at Rosehill. She since ran seventh at Kembla Grange but looks suited here and can break through with a win. 1. Farnanheit was close-up when a last start second at Queanbeyan and looks set to run well again with a repeat of that effort. 3. Chef’s Kiss debuted with a midfield Wagga finish and should be better with that run under his belt. 4. Glenn’s Legacy is resuming after two trials and warrants consideration.
How to play it: Farsain WIN.
Race 5
7. Casino Shaw looked good scoring a Sapphire Coast victory as favourite two starts ago and then backed it up with a second at the same track. She’s racing well enough to give this a shake. 1. Soul Lady has been down on form in three runs since resuming from a spell but is capable of improving sharply. 4. Missile Leader hasn’t been far away in a couple of recent runs, while 5. Win The Day is resuming and can sprint well fresh.
How to play it: Casino Shaw WIN.
Race 6
2. Star Bling has been racing well of late with three recent third placings from her last four starts. She was safely held when a last start third at the Sapphire Coast but is worth another chance against these. 6. I Doubt It looked good scoring a last start Sapphire Coast victory and only needs to run up to that to be in the thick of things again. 4. Endless Applause was a winner at this track two starts ago and followed that up with a seventh at Wagga. Another bold showing is on the cards. 3. Sure Intentions ran well enough when a last start third at Goulburn and has claims based on that performance.
How to play it: Star Bling EACH WAY.
Race 7
2. Trooper has been racing well having found winning form at Canberra two starts ago when racing on the speed and scoring with ease. He backed that up with another on-speed victory at Bathurst when winning by more than six lengths. He should push forward again in this and take plenty of running down. 8. Pushalot was first-up from a spell when finishing third at Queanbeyan and only needs to run up to that effort to be in the finish again. 10. Ciao Bella Mia ran well when resuming with a Sapphire Coast second and followed that up with a seventh at Wagga. She is capable at best and worth including among the main chances. 4. Mctominay ran well enough when a last start fourth at Canberra and can sneak into the minor placings.
How to play it: Trooper WIN.
Best Bets: Race 3 (3) Winning Emotions.
Race 4 (9) Farsain.
Best Value: Race 2 (5) Mayport.
