Police are looking for a man after he dumped a woman’s body on the stretcher of a paramedic working in Perth’s north.
This masthead understands a man approached an ambulance crew who were typically stationed and working near Joondalup’s largest shopping centre on Grand Boulevard, about 9.30am on Wednesday.
He was seeking help and carrying the unconscious woman, before putting her on the stretcher beside paramedics.
Paramedics determined the woman was deceased and police were called, but the man left the scene. A cause of death has not yet been identified.
Joondalup Detective Inspector Jayd Morawski said while the woman was yet to be formally identified, police had spoken to people they believed to be her family.
It is understood the woman was “young”, and the man was believed to have been known to her.
“We know who he is, and the best thing he can do is hand himself in to police,” Morawski said.
“At this stage, we would like to speak to him. His knowledge of the circumstances around this morning are key to this investigation, so we do need his assistance in getting a full picture as to what occurred.”
Police spent Wednesday cordoning off large parts of Joondalup and seizing CCTV and other relevant evidence from a block of nearby apartments and businesses.
“The investigation involves officers from the general detectives’ office, the major crime division, and specialist investigators,” Morawski said.
The police cordon on the popular thoroughfare was recently lifted.
“I can say at this time categorically we don’t think there’s any threat to the community,” Morawski said.
Officers urged anyone with information or with dash-cam or CCTV from between 9.30am and 9.45am to contact police as soon as possible.
A St John spokesperson said paramedics were cooperating with the investigation, and the impacted crew was being provided with support.
