Police officer shot, rushed to hospital as suburb locked down

A man has been found dead after he allegedly shot a police officer while they were responding to a domestic violence-related disturbance at a Fraser Coast property on Friday afternoon.

Police attended a home in Yengarie, about three hours north of Brisbane, to conduct a welfare check about 5.45pm.

Upon arrival, they attempted to engage with a 45-year-old man at the property before he shot an officer in the leg.

The officer was transported to hospital in a stable condition.

Specialised police arrived at the scene about 9.20pm and after searching the property the Gunidah man was found dead.

The Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) declaration made on Friday was revoked 11:36pm.

Police said in a statement no other officers or members of the public were injured during the incident and the matter will be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command, with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission, and a report will be made for the State Coroner.
