Emergency services were called to the clinic last Friday at about 7pm, where they found an 85-year-old man with stab wounds to his neck.
Paramedics treated the doctor for serious injuries at the scene before transporting him to hospital in a stable condition.
Zhang was arrested at the scene and taken to Surry Hills Police Station, where he was charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The offence, if proven, carries a maximum penalty of 25 years’ imprisonment.
