Pat Cummins out of T20 World Cup, no late call-up for Steve Smith

Champion paceman Pat Cummins has been ruled out of Australia’s Twenty20 World Cup campaign but there was no room for superstar batter Steve Smith despite selectors making a last-minute change to the batting line-up.

In a move which further highlights the boldness of Australia’s decision to have him ready for the Ashes, Cummins has run out of time to be fit for the global T20 event, which starts in Colombo next weekend.

Sydney Sixers left-armer Ben Dwarshuis has been drafted into the final 15-player squad, as has Matthew Renshaw, who comes in at the expense of Matthew Short, who has paid the price for moderate performances in the Big Bash League.
