Passengers have been suspended midair on a ride at Movie World on the Gold Coast.

Thrillseekers were stranded in 30-degree heat after the DC Rivals HyperCoaster became stuck on Wednesday.

Footage shared to social media shows the passengers stuck, with umbrellas covering them to protect them from the heat.

“They’ve got the umbrellas out, it’s very hot today,” theme park visitor Shane Treloar said in a video as he filmed the stranded riders.

“Something’s happened to the rollercoaster and they got stuck. So they would not be happy.

“Is this your worst nightmare? Getting stuck on a rollercoaster. I don’t think many people would be very happy with it.

Village Roadshow Theme Parks confirmed the incident, sharing a video of its safety protocols to social media.

The stoppage was blamed on the activation of a ride sensor.

“At all times throughout the stoppage, the guests on board were safe and our team were in constant communication with them," Village Roadshow said.

“The guests on board exited the ride from the safe stop zones with the help of our team, before walking down the lift hill.

“The safety and wellbeing of our guests is our highest priority and ride stoppages are proof rides systems and operators are doing as they are designed and trained to do to keep our guests safe.”
