In today’s early game the Knights moved into the top four on the back of a five-game winning streak thanks to a less-than-convincing 28-22 win over an injury-hit Parramatta side in Newcastle.

There were plenty of errors in the second half (Newcastle completed 72% of their sets, Parramatta 73%) but the Knights got the job done after leading 12-10 at the half-time break.

Kalyn Ponga backed up for Newcastle after his send-off was the biggest moment of Wednesday night’s State of Origin I, while Parramatta had several chances to pull off a shock win but were made to pay for a string of forward passes and some sloppy defence like this try below.

First up the Wests Tigers are out to snap a three-game losing streak against a Bulldogs team that ended their own five-game losing run last week. That 10-point win over Melbourne eased the pressure off Canterbury for now, but it’ll be back on if they struggle against Jarome Luai and the Tigers, who have fallen off badly after making a strong start to the season. Kick-off is at 5.30pm.

Then the Storm host the Sydney Roosters in Melbourne. It’s a game that features several State of Origin stars, but this time around these clubs are at opposite ends of the ladder, Melbourne sitting in 15th place and the Roosters up in third. Can the Storm bounce back from last week’s loss to the Dogs?
