The mother of a three-week-old boy who was allegedly murdered has been arrested and charged with cruelty.

The baby was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital in a critical condition on July 18, 2024, and died four days later.

Police allege he had suffered catastrophic brain injuries at an address on Rosemary Street in Greenbank, Logan.

The boy’s 25-year-old father, Hank Sherriff, from Cleveland, was charged with murder on Monday.

On Wednesday afternoon, police in Logan confirmed a second person had been charged with child cruelty.

This masthead confirmed it was the boy’s 24-year-old mother from Southport.

She is due to appear at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on March 4.

Investigators said the charges came after new medical testing indicated the baby died from internal injuries.

There were no obvious signs of trauma when he was first taken to hospital.

Weeks after the death, Sherriff posted to social media.

“Today you were cremated. I have no words. I love you son forever and always,” he wrote.

“I told you to hit the sun and reach the stars and you did. I’ll love you forever my little man no matter what, death shall not make us part. I’ll see you soon.”

Detectives woke Sherriff in bed when they arrived to arrest him earlier this week.
