Homicide detectives believe a missing man linked to an Attadale unit has likely been killed, WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch has revealed.

Jayden Selfe, 33, has not been seen since May, with police receiving a “vague” tip last month that he may have met with foul play.

“We don’t believe [he is alive] at this stage, but we don’t want to rule that out, we still have more investigations to go, but we are very concerned about his welfare based on the investigations we have conducted at [an Attadale] premises and further information we have received,” Blanch told ABC Radio.

The missing search case sparked the public’s interest after forensic police set up a crime scene tent at a Money Road unit on Thursday, but refused to say why they were there – or what they were looking for.

Blanch has since clarified police were reluctant to reveal their motives early on, as they had not verified the tip about Selfe being missing.

“It would make no sense to go to the public and say we actually don’t know what’s happened, we have no evidence of anything, we’re going to tell you a story that we can’t actually verify ourselves,” he said.

“We really had no answers to give, and now that we have done that forensics investigation, now that we have received further information, we can quite clearly say we are investigating the suspicious disappearance of Mr Selfe.”

It’s understood Selfe did not reside at the Attadale unit.

The homicide squad has now taken over the investigation, with Blanch reassuring the community that it’s believed the incident is “confined” and “related to people very close or around Mr Selfe”.
