Miami: Manosphere influencer brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate have been arrested and detained in Miami, and British authorities will seek to extradite them to face charges for alleged sexual offences.
Brady McCarron, a spokesperson for the US Marshals Service, said the warrant was sealed. However, the brothers are wanted in the United Kingdom, where they face rape and human trafficking charges.
British authorities have confirmed they will seek extradition for the brothers, who are dual US and British citizens.
The former professional kickboxers promote hypermasculinity, unapologetic misogyny and a luxury lifestyle on social media, a niche known as the “manosphere”, and have millions of followers, mostly young men.
A statement from Bedfordshire Police in the UK said the brothers were detained after an investigation by police into a number of alleged sexual offences that resulted in additional charges.
The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised 38 new charges against the brothers, bringing the total number of charges to 59. Andrew Tate, 39, faced 42 charges and Tristan, 38, faced 17 charges.
The original charges were based on a file of evidence submitted by officers from Bedfordshire Police into allegations dating back to 2012. Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit had continued to investigate other offences reported to both Bedfordshire Police and Hertfordshire Constabulary, leading to the additional charges, the police statement said.
Assistant Chief Constable Karena Thomas said: “Officers from our major crime unit have been working closely alongside the Crown Prosecution Service and both national and international law enforcement agencies as part of this complex investigation.
“We understand the interest that this case will generate, but we would urge the public not to speculate and to allow the legal process to be carried out correctly.
“There is no place for male violence against women and girls, and we will continue to work tirelessly to support victims and investigate all reports made to us.”
The Tate brothers moved to Romania in 2016 and were arrested there in 2022, accused of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. They denied those allegations and the case did not go ahead because of procedural irregularities.
