A fire alarm then triggered the evacuation of dozens of residents.

A fight is believed to have broken out inside an apartment on level 11.

The man died at the scene.

Resident Jessica Rodarowe told Nine News it was a scary situation.

“For about four hours we’ve been outside. They haven’t told us much, just that the worst has happened. I was asleep when the fire alarm went off,” she said.

A crime scene was established early on Thursday morning and homicide squad detectives remain on scene.

Police confirmed they were treating the incident as a targeted attack.
