A man has died and another was taken to hospital after the pair were caught in a powerful rip at one of Perth’s most popular beaches.
The men, aged 33 and 40, were pulled from the water around 3pm on the Australia Day public holiday after being rescued at Mettam’s Pool in Perth’s northern suburbs.
Two surf lifesavers responded, pulling them from the water and providing emergency first aid before the men were taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital via ambulance.
However, the 40-year-old died in hospital a short time later.
The 33-year-old man was discharged on Monday night.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
