A 46-year-old woman was allegedly tortured while being held captive at home north-west of Brisbane in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Her alleged attacker, a 32-year-old man known to her, has been charged with attempted murder and torture after the horrifying ordeal, which unfolded about 1.20am.

The man, from the rural area of Benarkin, about 160 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, was arrested on Sunday after officers were called to the home.

“The man held the woman so she could not leave the residence,” police said in a statement.

The man has been charged with six offences, including attempted murder, torture, armed assault, and deprivation of liberty.

All six charges were laid with domestic violence as an aggravating factor.

The 46-year-old woman, who is from the neighbouring area of Linville, was taken to Caboolture Hospital for treatment on Sunday, and was receiving professional support, police said.

The man was expected to face Caboolture Magistrates Court on Monday.

Support is available from the National Sexual Assault, Domestic Family Violence Counselling Service (1800RESPECT) on 1800 737 732.
