Winless St George Illawarra have been dealt another blow with rookie halfback Kade Reed suffering a hand injury that could rule him out for up to three months.

Reed did not train in Wollongong on Tuesday after rupturing a tendon in one of his fingers against Newcastle on Saturday and will not be named in Dean Young’s team to face Penrith on Sunday to close out the NRL’s Magic Round at Suncorp Stadium.

In his absence, Kyle Flanagan is set to be recalled to the Dragons halves to partner Daniel Atkinson, who has also been carrying a hand injury and missed Saturday’s defeat to Newcastle but trained on Tuesday.

Flanagan, who has been picked on an extended bench the past two matches, has not played since his dad Shane Flanagan stepped down from his role as head coach last month.
