Jacinta Allan announced her resignation as premier of Victoria on Tuesday morning, following months of pressure over her handling of the Big Build corruption scandal and dire opinion polls pointing to an election loss in November.
In her 15-minute exit speech, Allan traversed the highs and lows of her almost three years in the top job, including her government’s investment in new schools, hospitals, transport infrastructure and women’s health.
Less time was spent on the things that eventually brought her undone: criminality on state government work sites and her refusal to call a royal commission to root it out.
