‘I woke to the sound of screams’: Woman hit by her own BMW in Ascot home invasion

Neighbours woke to a woman’s screams after she was run down by her own BMW in an Ascot home invasion early on Wednesday.

Security cameras captured the thieves scoping out the property on Hopetoun Street, driving past in a hatchback, before returning.

The footage then shows one offender wearing black gloves getting out of the car and walking to the front gate.

Security cameras captured the intruders outside the Ascot home.

The thieves broke louvres to get into the house shortly before 5am and stole the black BMW X3 from the garage.

Dogs at the residence alerted the home’s occupants to the intruders, who they confronted in the garage as they were about to leave with the car, neighbours said.

A 34-year-old woman tried to stop them from driving away, but she was struck by the BMW as the thieves sped off.

Neighbour Bella Zarganis told Nine News she woke to the sound of screams.

“I heard a man’s voice really loudly and then there was like crashing sounds, and then I heard a woman scream quite loudly,” she said.

“That’s when I jumped out of bed and ran to my balcony and I saw a car speed off down the street.

“I was too scared to come down myself, but I saw that there [were] other people coming, and then not long after, the police showed up.

“Her scream was what made me jump out of bed because it was quite loud and sounded like someone was dying.”

The 34-year-old victim was knocked to the ground, suffering minor injuries, and was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition.

Police said they found the BMW a short time later on Borrows Street, Virginia, and urged anyone with footage of the incident, or from Hopetoun Street between 4.30am and 5.30am, to come forward.
