Backhaus Bakery’s original wholesale retail shop is still going strong.

It now has a flagship bakeshop and retail space in Essendon, but Backhaus was originally born in 2023 as a wholesale bakery with a simple retail shop in Airport West. Visit for crusty, sourdough loaves crafted by hand and slow-fermented over 48 hours, plus baguettes, pastries (including twice-baked dulce de leche croissants), biscuits and more.

The bake to buy: Salty sumac-sprinkled fougasse, sold warm from 9.30am daily.
